The
Children's Charities Association (CCA) began as an unstructured group of
charities benefiting children. The charities got together to organize joint
fund-raising projects in the 1960s.
The success of the first Christmas Fair organized in 1965 at the Victoria
Memorial Hall drove the need for a formal organization.
In 1966, the Association was inaugurated through the untiring efforts of the
late Mr Francis Thomas who became the founding Chairman. It was subsequently
registered by the Registrar of Societies and granted the status of an
Institution of Public Character in 1972.
CCA is the coordinating body purposed to organize fund-raising
projects for member charities which have the common objective of helping
physically, mentally and socially disadvantaged children of Singapore.
The original four member charities are:‑
Singapore Children's Society
Singapore Association for the Deaf
Spastic Children's Association of Singapore
Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore
St Andrew's Mission Hospital for Children became the fifth
member charity to join CCA in 1971. The sixth member charity to join CCA in
1977 is Association for Persons With Special Needs (formerly as Association
for Educationally Sub-Normal Children)
CCA's efforts are not only directed at alleviating the
disablement of children but also at giving hope for the future.
Our member charities are single minded in their effort to educate , train
and assist the children under their care to become independent and useful
citizens who can play their role in the nation. |
